MINISTER FOR SPORT AND THE AUSTRALIAN SPORTS COMMISSION ANNOUNCE NEW FUNDING AHEAD OF PARIS 2024

The Minister for Sport, The Hon Anika Wells, and the Australian Sports Commission CEO, Kieren Perkins, have today announced the new Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Preparation Fund which will see a $20 million one-off investment distributed to 32 ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Sporting Organisations for both para and able-bodied sports.

The funding is in recognition of the cost-of-living pressure all sports are facing and the importance of ensuring sports have the necessary resources to make the final 12 months before the Paris Games count.

Of today’s funding announcement, Shooting Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, Adam Sachs, says “Shooting Australia is very grateful for the additional funding that will be provided by the Federal Government to support our athletes and our team to qualify and prepare for success at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We have been managing our sport’s limited resources very carefully since returning to international travel and competition post COVID. This has required us to be disciplined and make some tough decisions to ensure we make it to Paris.

We will continue to apply this discipline to the application of this additional investment to ensure we arrive in Paris with our best athletes ready to perform. We will also continue to look beyond Paris by investing in the people, programs, activities, and events that will set Australian Shooting up for success in Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane in 2032.”

Today’s announcement is timely on the eve of one year to go to the Paris 2024 Olympics and will undoubtedly signal relief across the Australian sporting landscape.
