Read the joint statement from federal, state and territory disability ministers, who welcomed the Disability Royal Commission report and acknowledged its importance.
On 5 March 2024, the Disability Ministers welcomed the historic final report of the Disability Royal Commission.
The Disability Royal Commission has clearly shown what needs to change to prevent violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability across Australia. In 2024, Disability Ministers will give priority to aligning the recommendations of the Disability Royal Commission and the NDIS Review, and the reforms will be standing agenda items in all their meetings.
Given the scale and complexity of reform recommended, and the importance of consulting widely, all governments will formally respond to recommendations after 31 March 2024. The Commonwealth and seven jurisdictions have agreed to respond to joint recommendations of the Disability Commission final report by mid – 2024.
The statement commits all governments to engaging with the disability community to create a unified support system, ensuring that people with disability can get culturally appropriate, safe and quality services and supports across Australia.
