Minns Government greenlights new primary school for Macquarie Park

NSW Gov

A new primary school is on the way for Macquarie Park after receiving planning approval from the Minns Labor Government.

The new state-of-the-art school will cater for up to 750 students from Kindergarten to Year Six, while also providing out-of-hours school care and community use of its facilities.

Land in Macquarie Park’s Ivanhoe Estate has been set aside to host the new school and the location has been strategically chosen for its walking distance connection to public transport and the nearby Macquarie Shopping Centre.

Construction of the school is expected to be complete in 2026. Once fully operational, the school will employ up to 46 full-time staff.

A sleek, modern design has been chosen for the school site with a five-storey building to be constructed. It will feature classrooms, administration and staff facilities, a canteen, a library and adjoining covered and landscaped outdoor learning areas.

The design also maximises play and outdoor space with an active area, running track and perimeter net for ball games on the building’s rooftop.

Macquarie Park was identified as an Accelerated Precinct under the Transport Oriented Development (TOD) program and recently, with the masterplan and rezoning finalised for the Macquarie Park TOD in November.

Along with new homes near transport and services, the Minns Government is committed to delivering the critical infrastructure to support this growing community.

This is all part of the Minns Labor Government’s plan to build better communities for NSW with access to key infrastructure close to homes and jobs.

Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:

“Macquarie Park’s new primary school will provide critical education infrastructure within a rapidly growing area close to public transport, open space and other services.

“This school will be a welcome addition to the Macquarie Park community and will ensure future generations and families have access to a high-quality public education.”

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:

“This is an important investment in public education as the Macquarie Park area’s primary school student projections are forecast to triple by 2041.

“Macquarie Park stands to benefit from the NSW Government’s Transport Oriented Development program with additional homes and jobs. The Minns Government is better connecting the housing growth with the provision of the infrastructure to support it and this infrastructure investment will be the first of many across this growing precinct.

“Our Government is committed to providing more essential infrastructure, such as schools, alongside more homes for the Macquarie Park and Ryde communities.”
