Minor grants round closes soon

Time is running out for community not-for-profit groups to apply for a $2000 grant from Sunshine Coast Council’s Minor Community Grants Program.

Applications close on May 7. Recent grant recipients, 4 Paws Animal Rescue, said they were thrilled to receive funding for this year’s ‘Walk for Awareness’ event, which is scheduled for September.

The event brings together families and their dogs for a 2km walk along the foreshores of Lake Kawana.

After the walk, participants can learn about responsible pet ownership from the 30 animal related stallholders on topics including desexing programs, microchipping and pet registration.

Last year, 200 dogs attended the event and their families enjoyed food and family entertainment, such as best dressed pet and best pet tricks competitions.

“We are very fortunate to work with a council that is supportive and proactive in companion animal welfare,” said 4 Paws Animal Rescue President, Mrs Julie Penlington.

“This walk is a great educational tool as it brings welfare-minded people together to get tips and advice in giving their companion animal a safe and happy life.”

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said not-for-profit community groups can apply for a grant to assist with delivering one-off projects, events and activities that benefit the community.

“We are always impressed by the high quality and much needed work not-for-profit groups are doing in our community.

“We are pleased to support 4 Paws Animal Rescue with this event which educates pet owners in a fun way about local laws, vet care, pet nutrition and animal management.

“If you’re considering a grant for your community group and need assistance, please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and give our grants officers a call.

“Now is the time for community groups to be planning and seeking minor grant funding for their Christmas events applications.”

Notification of application outcomes will occur 6 weeks from round close.
