The Stats NZ commissioned report into the management and handling of census forms and data collected by Manurewa Marae is now expected to be publicly released in early 2025.
Independent investigator Doug Craig was appointed to lead the Stats NZ investigation after the allegations were received by our Office of the Chief Executive on 29 May 2024.
Originally due to conclude on 31 July 2024, more time has been needed to thoroughly investigate the complex situation. Mr Craig’s findings will be released alongside the related Public Service Commission inquiry led by Michael Heron KC and Pania Gray.
“Ensuring people’s personal information is kept safe and secure is vital,” says Government Statistician and Stats NZ Chief Executive Mark Sowden.
“Mr Craig’s final report will be shared with the Public Service Commission, Police and Office of the Privacy Commissioner,” says Sowden.
Further statements will be made on release of the reports.
