Community members gathered on Friday 7 June to celebrate the official naming of the Fred Grimwade Pavilion at Seymour’s Kings Park.
The ceremony celebrated the life and legacy of the late Fred Grimwade AO, who was a tireless advocate for the region. Mr Grimwade’s wife Joan, son Martin and daughter-in-law Jane were also in attendance.
Mr. Grimwade served on the Council of the Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society for more than 25 years, playing a key role in its ongoing success.
He also represented the area in the Victorian Parliament for two decades, holding the prestigious position of President of the Legislative Council from 1979 to 1985.
Additionally, he served as a Pyalong Shire Councillor, demonstrating his deep commitment to local governance.
Mr Grimwade’s service to the Victorian Parliament, agriculture and the community was recognised when he became an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1987.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor Louise Bannister said Mr Grimwade dedicated his life to public service and the betterment of the community.
“His unwavering commitment and tireless efforts have left an indelible mark on our region,” she said.
“The Fred Grimwade Pavilion is a fitting tribute to a remarkable man. The space will provide a valuable resource for Seymour and surrounding areas, fostering community engagement and growth – a legacy that reflects Mr. Grimwade’s passion for public service.”
