Moama preschool projects gets green light thanks to Federal funding

Murray River Council

Moama’s new preschool will now come to life following the announcement of a $2.9 million funding injection from the Australian Government this week.

Murray River Council was awarded funding under the Building Better Regions program to ensure construction of the $5.9million preschool facility can progress.

Mayor Chris Bilkey welcomed the announcement, which adds to the $1.5m million already secured through the NSW Government’s Start Strong Capital Works Program.

“Together with the State funding and our existing contribution of $1.5 million, this additional funding means we’re now able to deliver a new preschool to the Moama community.”

“The Government has been a great supporter of many of our community-driven initiatives, so it’s welcome news that they have again got on board a project like this that that will benefit our littlest learners.”

Behind the scenes planning for the new Preschool has been ticking along, after council engaged a local architectural company to deliver detailed drawings and other services to progress the project to approval stage.

The new preschool project has been gaining momentum over the last few years with the current preschool, located at Regent Street Moama, operating at capacity with an expanding waiting list.

The new site for the new preschool is located within the Moama Recreation Reserve – situated along Boyes St – and has the capacity to double the number of places offered.

Preschool President, Alison Wright said the funding is welcome news to the committee.

“We are thrilled that work can now begin on this important project, which will enable the Moama Preschool to provide quality educational services to so many more families.”

Cr Bilkey agreed that it is a big project that will deliver positive outcomes for the community.

“The new preschool will be an incredible asset to the town and will add to the consolidation of the area as an education precinct that will service the growing residential development in Moama.”

“It’s been great to work alongside the preschool committee to keep this project ticking and we now looking forward to working with them further as we get this exciting new facility built!”
