Monash University

Monash has placed 82nd in the world in the ShanghaiRanking Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2024 out of more than 2500 universities ranked globally.

The result solidifies the University’s standing as a top-100 university, as assessed by ARWU since 2016.

Monash University Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Sharon Pickering said this latest ranking further highlights the University’s global standing in research excellence and the dedication of its staff.

“Monash University’s ongoing strong performance in these prestigious rankings once again recognises our commitment to global excellence in education and research,” Professor Pickering said.

“Monash is a leading global research and education institution with a presence that arcs across the Indo-Pacific region and into Europe that, combined with our deep and enduring relationships with local and international partners, enables us to deliver and maximise the positive impact of our excellent research around the world.”

The result follows Monash’s outstanding performance in global university rankings released earlier this year, including the and the in which we placed 37th and 35th respectively.

ARWU adopts six objective indicators to compile its global university rankings. These comprise the number of:

  • alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals;
  • articles published in the journals of Nature and Science;
  • Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate;
  • articles indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded™ and Social Sciences Citation Index™ in the Web of Science™; and
