More than $2 million in additional funding is being provided to specialised sexual violence services to enable them to provide support to those impacted by sexual violence.
Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence, Jo Palmer, said the Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to ensuring Tasmanians have timely access to appropriate and accessible support services.
“That’s why we’re providing $2 million in increased funding to the Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS) and Laurel House for therapeutic services and to address harmful sexual behaviours,” Minister Palmer said.
“This additional investment reflects our ongoing commitment to implementing all recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry.
“We are working closely with SASS and Laurel House to reduce waitlists and increase access to specialist therapeutic services by 30 June 2026 as part of a broader group of work to make improvements to the therapeutic service system.
“Our ongoing commitment to victim survivors is demonstrated through our strong partnership with sexual violence services, where this Government has increased funding by 200 per cent since 2019.”
In 2024-25, specialist Tasmanian sexual violence services will receive a 36 per cent increase in Tasmanian Government funding from the previous year.
An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is to lock in Tasmania’s position as the best place to live, work and raise a family, and develop stronger, supported communities.
