The Hodgman Liberal Government is seeking suitable qualified driving instructors to take part in our Enhanced P1 Assessment pilot to help cut wait times and streamline the process of getting a licence.
This is the first time the private sector will be able to conduct provisional licence assessments and will increase appointment availability times and locations that P1 driving tests can be taken.
By opening up assessment rights to the private sector, alongside existing government assessors, we can provide more convenient appointment times, including outside normal business hours or on weekends.
This is another way the Government is making it most accessible for young people to get their licence.
Under the pilot, nine current L2 Authorised Driving Assessors who have conducted 75 or more L2 Assessments in 2018 are sought to undertake P1 Assessments.
A rigorous selection process will involve assessment of the applicants experience and capability, undertaking compliance audits of L2 assessments with real clients captured by in-car cameras, and a five-day dedicated P1 Assessor training course with both theoretical and practical exercises.
The pilot is expected to commence in September 2019 and will run for at least 12 months with the outcomes to guide how we make longer-term improvements to the delivery of driver assessments.
