More Than One Thousand New ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s In Box Hill

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government has given the green light to a major development in Melbourne’s east that will bring more than 1,000 new homes to Box Hill – delivering more homes where Victorians want to live.

Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny today announced the approval of the Box Hill Central North Masterplan, paving the way for the transformative $1.57 billion project delivering 1,700 homes, with a 10 per cent affordable housing contribution.

The Box Hill Central North Masterplan site will redevelop the site into a mixed-use precinct, featuring a new civic plaza, public open space and new pedestrian and bike paths within a landscaped setting.

To be delivered across seven multi-storey buildings, these new homes will be located near jobs, services, and public transport – including the SRL Box Hill Station.

The project aligns with the long-term vision for SRL East – a project that will help deliver 70,000 new homes above and around the six new station precincts in Box Hill, Burwood, Glen Waverley, Monash, Clayton and Cheltenham.

The development was submitted as part of the Government’s Development Facilitation Program, which streamlines the planning process for priority projects that boost investment into Victoria’s economy, keep people in jobs, and create homes for Victorians.

Victoria is the fastest growing state in the country and the Labor Government is pulling every lever to enable 800,000 new homes to be built over the next decade as part of its landmark Housing Statement.

It’s all part of Victoria’s plan to deliver more homes in established suburbs – close to jobs, transport, education, and services – giving more young people the chance to live near where they grew up, and reducing future growth pressure on families in Melbourne’s booming outer suburbs.

As stated by Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny

“With Melbourne’s population set to be the size of London by 2050, we’re pulling every lever we can to ensure we can get thousands of new homes for Victorians off the ground faster – where they want to live.”

“Box Hill is one of our fastest growing communities and this project will bring more than 1,700 new homes right next to the Suburban Rail Loop – helping us deliver more homes close to jobs, services and great public transport.”
