The Devonport City Council has added to the amenity of the Miandetta Park with the provision of new seating and toilets.
Following community consultation, Council installed the playground last year and now two seats have been installed in a joint project with Mersey Devonport Lions and the Rotary Club of Devonport North.
Mayor Annette Rockliff said the seats were a welcome addition to the park.
“Seating was identified as a priority for users of the park during consultation on the playground project, and it was pleasing that the two service clubs wasted no time in joining us in this project, for which I thank them both,” she said.
One of the seats is in memory of successful local businessman Joe Krawczyk.
His daughter, local resident and a driving force behind the playground project, Megan, thanked Council for the recognition of his legacy describing the seat as a “simple but beautiful way to remember him.”
Ms Krawczyk said she and her son MJ would cherish it.
Council committed $150,000 in the 2019-20 capital works program to the toilets.
Cr Rockliff said the Miandetta Park project was a direct result of a community lobbying effectively for the work and she was pleased at how quickly Council had delivered on it.
“The feedback has certainly been positive since the playground was installed and I am sure many children have enjoyed getting back out on the equipment now restrictions have been eased.”
