The Morrison Government’s successful $2 billion JobTrainer program has hit another significant milestone, exceeding its initial course commitment with more than 300,000 enrolments across the country.
JobTrainer funds free or low fee training at TAFEs and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) for job seekers and young people, including school leavers, in areas of identified local skills need.
Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, Stuart Robert, said the program delivered skills that helped Australians land a job while allowing them to remain in their local area, if they chose.
‘JobTrainer has supported an army of Australian workers to learn skills for free, through our TAFEs and RTOs. You could fill the MCG three times over with the people who are job-ready thanks to JobTrainer,’ Minister Robert said.
‘If you are looking for a job or you aren’t sure whether to go to university or start an apprenticeship, consider a JobTrainer course.’
The Morrison Government doubled down on its JobTrainer program in the Federal Budget, expanding it to fund 463,000 course placements.
‘Our expanded JobTrainer is open to anyone looking to develop in-demand skills like aged care, disability care, childcare and digital skills, regardless of their age, employment status or prior study. There’s no shortage of places with 163,000 spots ready to be taken up,’ Minister Robert said.
The major JobTrainer milestone follows an official update from the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Centre for Vocational Education Research. It found apprentice and trainee numbers continue to surge across Australia, with in-training increasing in 2021 by 27.5 per cent. Commencements over the last 12 months are up 59.5 per cent. Completion rates are up by more than 21 per cent, compared to the same period last year.
Minister Robert said it was clear the Australian skills sector and TAFEs were thriving under the Morrison Government as it secured this economic recovery.
‘Our policies and record funding, $7.1 billion this year alone, are putting Australians at the front of the queue-whether that is starting an apprenticeship, mastering an in-demand skill or getting a job,’ Minister Robert said.
‘We have well over half a million job-ready Australians skilling up or skilled up, with more than 300,000 JobTrainer enrolments and the highest level of trade apprentices on record with over 220,000 in training.’
