Morwell CBD Revitalisation project has begun construction. Traders and businesses along commercial road CBD will remain open with changes to parking conditions to ensure customers can park in the CBD during construction. The Morwell CBD Revitalisation project will create a reinvigorated town centre and establishing Morwell as a vibrant, dynamic and welcoming centre in this area of Morwell by calming traffic, providing a space to support community events, encouraging people visiting to stay longer.
The construction zone will last for approximately 6 months. During the construction period traffic and parking will be affected with traffic on certain sections of Commercial Road being turned into a one way street temporarily. Traffic signage will be in place to help navigate the temporary conditions.
These works have been awarded to local contractor Ace Earthmoving who will use 98% local content and will support the retained employment of 12 jobs. The Morwell CBD Revitalisation project is scheduled to finish late November 2019.
This project will:
- Create a green avenue of trees and gardens.
- Refurbish the existing three parklets and construct nine more parklets each with its own identity through gardens, seating, outdoor dining, historical signage and decorative lighting.
- Enhance pedestrian experience when walking around Commercial Road
- Create a community gathering space in Tarwin St with a shade structure, café seating, and casual seating.
- Provide infrastructure to support festivals, events and markets.
