Willoughby City Council’s MOSAIC Multicultural Centre was a big winner at the 2023 Harmony Dinner, collecting the NSW Premier’s Multicultural Community Medal for Local Government Business Excellence.
The Premier’s Multicultural Community Medals pay tribute to outstanding people and organisations who work tirelessly to promote social cohesion and harmony across NSW. The Local Government Business Excellence Award recognises a Local Government organisation who has achieved outstanding success in developing and providing services and support to a diverse local community.
For decades, MOSAIC has built its reputation as the leading multicultural community hub in Sydney’s north, providing a diverse community with accessible programs for learning, leisure, and social connection.
Willoughby City Mayor Councillor Tanya Taylor said ‘This year will mark 30 years since MOSAIC was first established in Willoughby and we take immense pride in its long-lasting, positive impacts on the community.’
‘The MOSAIC Centre has been an integral part of our community which is home to people from diverse cultural backgrounds. MOSAIC has touched many lives providing opportunities to connect, and to learn.’
‘MOSAIC has provided a place where precious friendships have formed, and for many people new to Australia, this has been life changing.’
Willoughby is an extremely diverse community with 46.5 per cent of Willoughby’s residents born overseas; with 41 per cent speaking a language other than English at home.
Together with a wonderful team of volunteers, the MOSAIC Centre offers various services including information and referral services for the migrants, English lessons, leisure activities, community social groups, technology programs and a school holiday program.
