A 32-year-old Ulverstone man had his motorcycle seized after being detected travelling at over 200km/h on the Bass Highway yesterday afternoon.
Police detected the motorcycle speeding near Sulphur Creek, and the rider returned a positive indication to a roadside drug test.
Acting Inspector Craig Harvey of Western Road Policing Services said “This is extremely concerning behaviour which placed not only the motorcycle rider but other road users at significant risk of serious injury or death.”
“We know that speeding and driving under the influence of illicit substances form part of the ‘Fatal Five’ which are known to contribute to serious and fatal crashes.”
“Tasmania Police will continue to have an increased presence on the roads during the summer holiday period. Anyone undertaking this sort of high-risk driving behaviour can expect to be detected and face significant consequences.”
Tasmania Police asks that anyone who witnesses dangerous driving behaviour contact police on 131 444.
The man will face court at a later date.
