Drivers are reminded to be extra cautious and stick to 40km/h school zone speed limits as term 2 begins today.
Many students will return to Western Australian classrooms today with renewed excitement of seeing friends and teachers again.
The 40km/h school zone speed limit will be operational between 7.30am and 9am and 2.30pm and 4pm on school days.
Parents can increase their child’s road safety knowledge by reminding students to cross the roads safely and ensure they wear helmets if riding or scooting to school.
As stated by Police and Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts:
“It’s been some weeks since drivers have had to beware of school zones and some people might just have fallen out of the habit.
“I want to remind drivers to be extra careful and make sure your paying extra attention around schools.
“Young children can be more unpredictable near the roads, particularly with the added excitement of seeing their school friends and teachers again after the school holidays.
“Drivers are also asked to be patient because parents now have to drop their children off outside the school due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There will be an increase in the number of children riding and walking on local roads, so please stick to the 40km/h school zone speed limit and be extra vigilant to ensure our roads are safer for our children.”
