A movie fundraiser to help Victorians affected by bushfires will be held at Lake Pertobe on January 17.
“Warrnambool city Council will screen the family friendly movie, Aladdin, to help fellow Australians who have suffered as a result of the ongoing bushfires,” Warrnambool Mayor Cr Tony Herbert said.
“The movie fundraiser has been registered with the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery program and Council volunteers will collect donations on the night.
“The advice from the Victorian Government and leading relief agencies is that the best way to help those in need right now is to donate money.
“The Big Screen Company has generously provided the screen at no cost and Council will cover the cost of the rights to screen the movie.”
Aladdin, which has a PG rating, will screen from 7pm.
“If you’d like to help fellow Victorians in need this is a great way to do so with your whole family or a group of friends,” Cr Herbert said.
“If you’re heading to the movie by car remember there is plenty of free parking at Cannon Hill, Flagstaff Hill, the railway station and opposite the TAFE along Merri Street.”

Your donation to Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery helps our emergency teams to do their work – including the bushfires we’re currently seeing, and disasters yet to come.
It enables us to give people the support they need in disasters: whether that’s help to prepare, a safe place to take shelter, psychological first aid, information, and practical support through the months and even years it can take to recover, and currently includes emergency grants in communities affected by the recent bushfires. The vast majority of our team are volunteers. The Disaster Relief and Recovery fund covers their costs, including training, equipment and transport as well as the coordination effort to ensure our teams are where the community needs them to be. We’re passionate about keeping our costs low to ensure every donation goes as far as possible.
What is Red Cross’ role in emergencies?
While other agencies fight the fires and clean up the streets, Red Cross looks after the people.
We help people cope with stressful and traumatic events by offering psychological first aid, linking them to information and services they need, helping them locate their loved ones, or just offering one-to-one support as people work out what to do next.
