The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety is pleased to announce that the Mining Rehabilitation Fund’s (MRF) latest .
The 2021- 2022 report provides an analysis of the performance and achievements of the MRF throughout the year. It also includes a summary of disturbance and rehabilitation data submitted by all respective tenement holders under the Mining Act 1978, plus an overview of the Fund’s compliance program in addition to the rehabilitation works undertaken through the Abandoned Mines Program (AMP).
Mining Rehabilitation Advisory Panel
DMIRS would like to acknowledge the significant contributions of the outgoing MRAP members Sally Audeyev, Michelle Rhodes, Andrew Cuthbertson and Kapila Karunaratna. The outgoing panel was involved in various projects, activities and workshops, which are discussed in this report.
DMIRS would also like to welcome to the new panel members, Renee Young, Angela Bishop, Vern Newton, Naomi Hutchings and Helen Chernoff who are appointed for a three year term in August 2022.
MRF Yearly Report
The 2021-2022 financial year marks the ninth year of successful management of the MRF with a total of $40.75 million in levies assessed for the year, and an 8.5% increase from the 2020-2021 period.
The MRF compliance team reviewed 2,032 tenements and found 355 tenements that may have potential discrepancies. The outcomes of the compliance plan resulted in additional levy payments of $584,980.06 and refunds of $12,943.11.
The MRF accumulated $12.5 million in net interest since 01 July 2014, and as of 30 June 2022 the Fund held $254 million.
