Yesterday afternoon Tasmania Police together with Transport Safety Officers conducted a joint traffic operation on the Lyell Highway, Hamilton.
With a focus on random breath tests, drug tests, vehicle checks, and licence checks, 17 vehicle defect notices were issued, and one drug driver was detected.
Overall police were pleased with the level of compliance from the motoring public in this rural area.
The festive season is now upon us with more traffic on the road, including tourists not familiar with our rural roads.
All road users are asked to be mindful of the ‘fatal five’ contributors to road deaths, particularly during this busy time of year:
• Speed
• Seatbelts
• Alcohol and drugs
• Distraction
• Fatigue
