A major $7.1 million water supply project, that is set to be a game-changer to one of Isaac’s historic towns, is on track for an October finish thanks to funding from the Queensland Government’s successful $365 million Building our Regions program.
The four-stage Nebo Water Supply Project will boast a new water treatment plant and a two-megalitre reservoir for the town’s 795 residents.
Mayor Anne Baker said the essential project will address critical water infrastructure needs in Nebo, enhancing water security, quality and reliability.
“This is another major achievement for Isaac Regional Council and the Queensland Government to increase the storage of safe, clean drinking water and raw water storage,” Mayor Baker said.
Minister for State Development Cameron Dick said the Queensland Government is proud to work in partnership with Isaac Regional Council to bring this project to life.
“Building our Regions demonstrates our commitment to working with regional councils, to deliver the vital infrastructure communities need to grow and thrive,” Mr Dick said.
Isaac Regional Council matched the $3.55 million it received through the Queensland Government’s Building our Regions program.
The project will also significantly improve firefighting capability in town.
Council and its contractors are working towards commissioning the new water treatment plant, reservoir and bores with connecting pipework from the bore field this October.
The connection of two additional bores to the network will enable six bores to supply the town, improve water security in case of equipment failure, and distribute water over a larger area of the aquifer.
