Come together and promote harmony through sport!
Wyndham City, together with the Wyndham Community and Education Centre and the Wyndham Humanitarian Network, are running a free Multicultural Sports event to celebrate Refugee Week.
There will be lots of fun activities including music, dance, food and a 7-a-side Soccer Tournament. Western United FC and Football Victoria will be running a soccer clinic and the Werribee Tigers will be running a footy clinic. So, whichever code you play – come along and join in.
The event will be held on Monday 26th of June from 9am until 5pm at Iramoo Community Centre, 84 Honour Avenue, Wyndham Vale.
Refugee Week is held annually and aims to unite individuals and organisations from many different backgrounds together in harmony.
Wyndham City’s Welcoming Portfolio holder, Cr Jennie Barrera, said: “The 2023 theme is ‘Finding Freedom’ and aims to highlight aspects of the refugee experience and help the broader community to understand what it is like to be a refugee.”
“Refugee week is the perfect time to recognise and celebrate the many refugees in Wyndham and the wonderful contributions they have made to our community.”
“Wyndham City welcomes everyone to our municipality, and we value and place great importance on creating an inclusive Wyndham that fosters harmony and celebrates and promotes the cultural diversity of our City.”
“Wyndham City is committed to ensuring our city continues to be a welcoming and inclusive City,” Cr Barrera said.
“We recognise modern Australia has been shaped by migration, with nearly half of all Australians either born overseas or who have a parent who was born overseas.”
“We recognise how our differences and similarities bring our community together and help strengthen social cohesion and make Wyndham a great place to live. We all have a different past, but the future is ours to share.”
Young people aged between 12 and 25 are encouraged to come along and are welcome to participate in Soccer or Caneball.
