The new $5.5 million West Coast Secondary Education Support Centre (SESC) was officially opened today by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery.
The centre is now co-located on the Warwick Senior High School site.
It includes a new administration area, refurbished classrooms, a dedicated therapy room, and increased access to specialist facilities and resources including the gymnasium, swimming pool, oval, home economics, design and technology, and an art and performing arts room.
Students will have opportunities for inclusion with mainstream classes and students.
The new facilities include a staff and administration building, parking, a pick-up and drop-off area and bus facilities.
West Coast SESC caters for students in Years 7 to 12 with a mild to moderate intellectual disability or autism.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“The relocation of West Coast Secondary Education Support Centre to Warwick Senior High School has provided new, improved facilities and enhanced opportunities for students with special needs at the school.”
As noted by Kingsley MLA Jessica Stojkovski:
“It’s wonderful to see West Coast Secondary Education Support Centre at Warwick Senior High School, the location will make it more accessible for families within the northern suburbs.
“These facilities will further strengthen the school’s ongoing commitment to provide relevant and inclusive education for all students attending West Coast Secondary Education Support Centre.”
