An international licence holder – who was caught driving at 100km/h in Pymble – is only one of several people caught doing twice the limit at the weekend, shocking Traffic and Highway Patrol officers.
About 5pm on Friday 2 August 2019, a 20-year-old man, driving on an international licence, was issued a traffic infringement notice for motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45km/h after he was allegedly detected travelling 101km/h in a 50km/h zone in Bannockburn Street, Pymble. The man’s licence was also suspended.
About 11.30pm on Friday 2 August 2019, police were called to a carpark on Thirlmere Way at Tahmoor after reports a Ford Falcon XR6 sedan was conducting burnouts.
Police will allege in court that the sedan continued to conduct a burnout in front of officers.
The driver, a 37-year-old man, was charged drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, drive with low range PCA, and aggravated burnout. He is due to appear at Picton Local Court on 3 September 2019.
About 8.30pm on Saturday 3 August, a Kia Sportage 4WD was stopped on Anzac Parade at Chifley for random testing.
The driver, a 28-year-old man, allegedly returned a positive result for methylamphetamine.
He could not produce his P2 provisional licence and, during a search of his vehicle, police located prohibited drugs.
The man was arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drug, and possess prohibited drug.
He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday 7 August 2019.
Just before 11pm yesterday (Sunday 4 August 2019), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting stationary speed enforcement at Padstow, when they detected a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan allegedly travelling 143km/h in a 70km/h zone.
The P2 provisional driver, an 18-year-old man, was issued a field Court Attendance Notice for driver over 45km/h and drive in a speed manner dangerous and had his licence suspended. He will face court at a later date.
About 9pm yesterday, Blue Mountains Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement duties on the Great Western Highway at Linden when they detected a Volkswagen Polo sedan travelling 164km/h in an 80km/h zone.
Police stopped the vehicle to speak with the driver, a 22-year-old man, who produced a P1 provisional drivers licence.
His licence was suspended, and he was issued a traffic infringement notice for motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45 km/h, and not comply P1 licence – no P plates.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy, said this behaviour was unacceptable on the state’s roads.
“A motorist’s selfish decision to speed or drive while under the influence puts not only themselves at risk but the greater community,” Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
“We are disappointed to see some drivers, including those who are on provisional licences, throwing common sense out of the window and gambling with people’s lives.”
