Multiple traffic infringements issued during rural race weekend at Louth, NSW

Officers attached to Central North Police District have praised the overall behaviour of race-goers who attended an annual race meeting in the state’s north-west.

Between Friday (9 August 2019) and Sunday (11 August 2019), an estimated 4000 people attended the annual Louth Races at Louth, 99km south west of Bourke.

Officers attached to Central North Police District, with the assistance of the Public Order & Riot Squad and Traffic & Highway Patrol Command, policed the event.

About 11.30pm Friday (9 August 2019), police attended a hotel in Louth following reports of an assault.

It is alleged a man, aged 21, was tackled by an unknown male and punched to the face.

Police attended the location however the unknown male had left the scene. Investigations continue.

Police conducted 1366 random breath tests across the course of the weekend and issued multiple infringements for traffic and drink driving offences.

The following offences were detected:

  • Mid-range PCA (x3)
  • Low range PCA (x4)
  • Novice range PCA (x1)
  • Unlicensed drivers (x5)
  • Unregistered/ uninsured motor vehicles (x4)
  • Exceed speed limit (x8)
  • Not wear seat belt (x6)
  • Miscellaneous traffic offences (x16).

“While crowd numbers were slightly down on last year’s event, the lower numbers of police interventions and traffic concerns is testament to the planning and cooperation of the travelling public,” Central North Police District Commander, Detective Superintendent Greg Moore said.

“We look forward to building on these results ensuring the smooth running of future Louth Race meetings.

“I take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard-working organising committee, the Police and other Emergency Services and all involved in contributing to the worthwhile Outback community event.”
