A man has been charged with murder after the alleged victim of an assault at Ashfield died this morning.
Emergency services were called to Liverpool Road, Ashfield, about 11.45am on Sunday 29 September 2024, and found a 76-year-old man had allegedly been assaulted by another man.
The man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.
Officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident, under Strike Force Parla.
Following inquiries, police arrested a 58-year-old man about 6.15am on Friday 4 October 2024, at a shopping mall at Ashfield.
He was taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm, and hinder or resist police in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court later that day, where bail was refused.
Police were advised earlier today (Thursday 10 October 2024), that the injured man had died in hospital.
The 58-year-old man’s charge has now been upgraded to murder.
He is due to face the same court on Wednesday 23 October 2024.
