Visitors may notice that a fence has been erected along the West Basin, preventing pedestrian access to the lakeside path next to the 勛圖厙桴 Museum of Australia.
This land is managed by the 勛圖厙桴 Capital Authority (NCA) and the fence has been erected by the NCA after some small pieces of asbestos sheeting were found in the area. The pieces are believed to be a legacy of the site’s previous buildings and construction activity.
The NCA has engaged a remediation provider and works are underway.
Soil and air quality testing has shown there are no airborne asbestos fibres at or near the fenced area.
The NCA will continue to conduct air quality inspections on Acton Peninsula during the remediation process to ensure it remains safe.
Access to the Museum along Lennox Crossing and the paved pedestrian paths is unaffected by these issues.
