Music Innovation Fund creating access to music for all

Thirty-three applicants have received a share in almost $300,000 through the second round of the State Government’s Music Innovation Fund.

Successful applicants include Bains Road Preschool’s Inclusive Preschool Program, which will use the funding to support a “Music for All’ program allowing students of all abilities to access musical instruments and participate in meaningful and accessible music education.

The preschool will also engage a music therapist to run regular music education sessions to enhance and develop children’s motor and communication skills, and social and emotional wellbeing.

Other successful programs in Round 2 of the grant program focus on upskilling non-specialist teachers, facilitating more music instruction in classrooms, encouraging students to pursue music opportunities in their school and community, and enhancing overall music education experiences.

“We want to provide all students, including those with complex needs, with access to high quality music education from an early age,” said Education Minister John Gardner.

“The Music Innovation Fund is one of the ways our Music Education Strategy is fostering, embracing and promoting the many benefits that music education can have on a child’s development and we would like to see more children take an interest in music as a result.

“By supporting innovative partnerships within these programs we are able to utilise experts to help upskill our teaching staff so they are equipped to create and sustain quality music programs within their site.”

The Music Innovation Fund encourages investment in innovative and promising practices, partnerships and programs and was established as part of the Marshall Liberal Government’s Music Education Strategy.
