NAIDOC Week is a special time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions Indigenous Australians make to our country and society.
This year’s theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!
Get involved in this year’s events with the following activities planned for Ballina Shire:
Annual Celebration Walk
Monday 4 July from 10.00am
The annual Celebration Walk starts from the Ballina RSL Club and proceeds along River Street then Cherry Street to the Ballina Indoor Sports Centre (BISC) for the official flag raising ceremony. Refreshments, BBQ, stalls and games will be staged in the BISC and also the closed off area of the carpark with morning tea will be provided for community Elders in the foyer.
Sports Day
Tuesday 5 July 10am – 3pm
Saunders Oval
Sports and stalls day with food, activities and performances.
Bundjalung Cultural Day
Wednesday 6 July 11am – 4.30p
Kingsford Smith Park
Gathering of community, music, indigenous dancers and cultural activities
Deadly Lawn Bowls
Thursday 7 July 11am – 2pm
Cherry Street Bowling Club
Lawn bowls competition and fun day for adults and high school students only
Jarjums Movie Nights
Thursday 7 July from 5pm
Ballina Surf Club
Movie night for the children – light supper provided
