Benalla Rural City Council, Benalla Health, and the Benalla Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group extend a warm invitation to the community to join in the NAIDOC Week celebrations for 2024.
This annual event commemorates the rich history, culture, and achievements of Australia’s First Nations people. Under the theme “Keep The Fire Burning,” this year’s celebration promises an enriching experience for all.
Aunty Cheryl Cooper, a respected local Aboriginal artist, shared her excitement as preparations for the event come together: “Our NAIDOC Week event in Benalla is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet! With a host of activities for the kids including a colouring-in competition, information stalls for families and adults, plus live music, it’s a fantastic opportunity for the Benalla community to come together.”
Benalla Rural City Mayor, Cr Danny Claridge, echoed the sentiment, “NAIDOC Week is a fantastic event on our Rural City’s calendar. I’m particularly looking forward to the array of children’s activities that will teach our young people about our nation’s rich First Nations culture.”
Jacqueline Kelly, CEO of Benalla Health, added, “Benalla Health is proud to support an event that promises to be a vibrant celebration of community spirit and cultural diversity. Join us as we keep the fire burning, weaving stories, traditions, and unity within our community.”
