Narooma panel event to highlight youth issues

Eurobodalla Council is shining a light on issues for local young people this Youth Week by handing them the mic.

At a dinner event at Narooma’s Bend and Sip Bar this Wednesday, people of all ages can come together to hear an all-youth panel talk about their experiences growing up in a rural community.

The event will be filmed, with the video placed on Council’s YouTube channel and shared through the Advocate for Children and Young People state-wide network.

Council’s youth development officer Sophie Scobie is keen to see a big turnout for the free event.

“We wanted to bring local young people together for a night out during Youth Week but also to make it a night out with purpose,” she said.

“We’ll have in attendance the NSW Advocate for the Child, Zoe Robinson, whose role is to ensure children and young people’s rights are respected and that their views are heard by adult decision makers, as well as local Councillors, to hear the presentations.

“There’ll be plenty of audience participation and dinner will be provided – so we’d love for people of all ages to come along and show their support.”

The evening will be focused around the NSW Youth Week 2022 theme ‘It’s up to You’th’, with the panel touching on their experiences in the Black Summer bushfires, the impacts of Covid and their views on government policy and planning.

The Growing up rural: Youth Week Q&A will be held Wednesday 6 April, 5.30-7.30pm, at the Bend and Sip Bar, 98A Campbell Street, Narooma.
