Following five years of exemplary work in the role of Chief Executive of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Capital Authority (NCA), Sally Barnes has been reappointed for a further three years.

The NCA is an important institution with responsibility for developing and maintaining the national capital for future generations of Australians, supporting Canberra’s unique cultural significance and heritage.

Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, Kristy McBain said Ms Barnes will continue to be able to use her extensive public service experience to achieve the best outcomes for the NCA, Canberra and the nation.

“In her tenure, Ms Barnes has led the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Capital Authority to deliver on a number of reforms and projects, including the Lake Burley Griffin Wall Renewal Program, upgrades to the Merchant Navy War Memorial, and renewing High Mast Lighting along Parkes Way, Commonwealth Avenue and King’s Avenue,” Minister McBain said.

“The role is one of national significance, helping maintain and develop Canberra as a national capital of which all Australians can be proud.

“With her experience to at the NCA, along with her previous roles as with Parks Australia and as Chief Executive Officer of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, Ms Barnes has the background, passion and commitment to continue to deliver on important projects and help nurture Canberra’s future.”

Ms Barnes’ reappointment recommences on 11 February 2023, with her joining the Chair and three additional members to make up the NCA Board, all of whom are appointed by the Governor-General on advice from the Australian Government.

The Chief Executive of the NCA is a full-time position, responsible for the strategic management of the organisation.
