I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Philip Chronican to the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Foundation for Australia-China Relations Advisory Board for a two-year term.
The Foundation brings together state, territory and local governments, business, education institutes, community and cultural sectors, and Chinese Australian communities to further build and strengthen our bilateral engagement with China.
It reflects the Australian Government’s commitment to a constructive relationship with China, based on mutual benefit and our national interest and guided by our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Mr Chronican is a senior business leader with extensive experience across Australia’s finance sector and brings a deep understanding of Australia’s economic, trade and investment relationship with the Indo-Pacific region, including China.
He has more than 38 years’ experience in banking and finance in Australia and New Zealand. He is currently Non-Executive Director and Chairman of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Australia Bank Limited (NAB) and served as interim NAB Group CEO from 1 March 2019 to 15 November 2019.
Mr Chronican is also the Chairman of the Westmead Institute for Medical Research.
I thank outgoing Board Member Mr Dig Howitt for his valuable contribution to the establishment of the Foundation.
I look forward to working with Mr Chronican, along with all members of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Foundation for Australia-China Relations Advisory Board, on this very important initiative.
