National Para Football Championships 2022 Day 1 Wrap 26 September

Day two kicked off with a 15-2 win to Football NSW Sky over a determined South Australia.

Riley Stubing scored a sensational second half goal for the South Australians while teammate Luc Launder added to their tally with a fantastic solo effort from inside his own half.

The New South Wales Sky boys were impressive with early goals to Dan Perenich and CommBank Pararoo Daniel Campbell. Perenich went on to score a hat-trick, while Jack Williams added four goals to his already significant goal tally, with six just in this match.

CommBank Pararoos Tim Blowes and Ben Atkins contributed with one each while fellow World Cup players Augustine Murphy securing a brace in the final minutes.

The second match of the day saw Capital Football’s all-female side take on Western Australia in an epic clash.

CommBank ParaMatilda Goalkeeper Katelyn Smith was incredible with more than 30 saves, including stopping a Connor Bunce rocket early in the first half.

The West Australians played their own keeper, Chris Barty on field, and he didn’t disappoint, adding two of his own to the team’s tally. Chris Minutillo also secured a brace while 51-year-old Miguel Marcellino scored his first of the tournament.

The final clash of the day was a true state of origin with New South Wales Navy taking on hosts Queensland.

A strong performance by Tomas Scotti and Goki Saito helped the visitors to a 4-0 win.

Scotti delivered with a hat-trick across both halves, including a penalty, and Saito made sure the visitors kept their lead before the half time break with a left strike into the bottom corner.

Queensland were in full fighting spirit, with some excellent clearances, but the NSW Navy side were just too strong on the day.

Today’s derby between the two New South Wales sides will decide who make the Final on Tuesday.
