³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Police Remembrance Day – 11am, South Australia

A service in honour of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Police Remembrance Day will be held at the Police Academy at Taperoo today.

Hosted by SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens, the private service is being held in memory of police officers who lost their lives in the execution of their duty.

It will take place at 11am at the South Australia Police ‘Wall of Remembrance’ – located at the Police Academy, in memory of the past 61 fallen SA police officers.

Commemorated annually on 29 September, the feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of police, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Police Remembrance Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the dangers of the policing profession, reflect upon the sacrifices made by dedicated officers and focus on the challenges that lie ahead.

This year SA Police will remember the four Victorian Police Officers killed on the Eastern Freeway on 22 April. Constable Josh Prestney, Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Glen Humphris will be remembered at services throughout the country. SA Police also remembers fallen officers from Fiji Police – Constable Siuta Nuimataiwalu, New Zealand Police – Constable Matthew Hunt, Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary – Sergeant David Hale, Constable Timot Kavanamur, Senior Constable John Patiliu and Senior Inspector Andrew Tovere.

His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le, Governor of South Australia and the Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services of South Australia, Vincent Tarzia will attend the ceremony along with a small contingent of invited dignitaries and emergency services personnel.

Due to COVID restrictions, only invited guests will be permitted at this year’s ceremony. However, complementing the service will be an online tribute where you are invited to visit our social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, as well as the SA Police website.

The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Police Remembrance Day ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Service held in Canberra is being live streamed from 4.30 pm on Tuesday 29 September and can be viewed by visiting

Adelaide Oval management will turn the Southern Stand lights blue and white for

the evening.

A regional event at Banrock Station will be held, but due to restrictions it will be a private service.
