³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Reconciliation Week: In This Together

At the start of , Burnet Institute renews its commitment to working together to further the national journey towards a fully reconciled country.

Two decades on from the reconciliation walks of 2000, this special week invites us to reflect upon what we’ve achieved in that time, but also to consider that reconciliation is an ongoing and everyday journey for all of us – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation.

“At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” Professor Caroline ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾r, Chair of Burnet’s Gender Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) Committee, said.

“This week at Burnet we recognise that we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and Australians now benefit from the efforts and contributions of people committed to reconciliation in the past.

“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have learned from their own science and research in their own communities for more than 70,000 year. We recognise this immense resilience and ancient wisdom.”

‘In this together’ is the theme of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Reconciliation Week, and in this year of COVID-19 when we can’t all be physically together, please join us in paying respect to Country and acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the Land you are on, wherever you happen to be.

Burnet Institute (Australia) is located on the traditional land of the Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri people and we offer our respects to the elders past and present. We recognise and respect their continued connection to and cultural heritage of this land.
