The Federa1 Government’s Coordinator-General of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Recovery and Resilience Agency, the Hon Shane L Stone AC QC, is this week meeting with communities in south-east Queensland that are continuing their recovery from the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires.
Mr Stone is visiting communities from Warwick to Beaudesert, including Peregian Beach on the Sunshine Coast where homes were destroyed by a bushfire that ripped through the area in September 2019.
Mr Stone said the Prime Minister’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Recovery and Resilience Agency continues to stand with individuals and communities impacted by the bushfires.
“The Australian Government has so far delivered $2.4 billion of the $2.8 billion that’s available to support communities, which includes $1.7 billion from the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Bushfire Recovery Fund,” Mr Stone said.
“Right now $280 million through the Black Summery Bushfire Recovery grants is on the table for eligible communities to spend on projects that are a priority for their community and their recovery. I’m strongly urging eligible groups to get their applications in by the deadline, 6 October.
“As well, I want to reinforce the message that we all: individuals, families, communities, local councils, businesses – everyone – need to be as ready as we can be for the next disaster.
“Yes, we have to be there to help people mop up and build back after a disaster hits
