Whether you’re a seasoned rider or more comfortable with training wheels, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Ride2Work Day on 16 October 2019 is the perfect opportunity to dust off your bike and get pedalling – Lycra optional!
Hungry cyclists are encouraged to stop off at the South Melbourne Market for a free coffee, French-themed community breakfast, and plenty of giveaways and prizes. Roving musicians will entertain cyclists while they refuel and Back2Bikes will be offering free bike tune-ups.
Mayor Dick Gross said Ride2Work Day was a fantastic initiative to get more people riding to work.
“Ride2Work Day is the ideal time to try out a two-wheel commute – your health, wallet and the environment will thank you!” Cr Gross said.
Benefits of swapping a car for active transport include improved physical and mental health, a reduction in local traffic congestion, parking pressures and emissions, and a shorter commute time.
Workplaces which register with Council for Ride2Work Day will receive a pack including a $50 supermarket voucher, Ride2Work Day signage, maps, raffle tickets and minor prizes.
The workplace with the highest percentage of riders will win $500 towards a bike riding initiative of their choice.
³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Ride2Work Day launches Council’s Tour de Moray – Festival of Everyday Riding, a six-week festival which promotes bike riding as an easy, enjoyable, healthy and sustainable transport option to get around Port Phillip.
“Council is proud of the upgrades to the Moray Street bike lanes. Now bike riders have a high-quality, alternative bike route from Albert Park to the City, making cycling around Port Phillip easier and safer,” Cr Gross said.
Ride2Work Day Community Breakfast will be held at South Melbourne Market on Wednesday 16 October from 7.30 to 9 am.
