The long awaited NBL 3×3 Big Hustle ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships will be held in Ballarat this month.
Initially scheduled for October last year, the event will now be held on January 22 and 23 at the Ballarat Sports and Events Centre that features three brand new, state-of-the-art outdoor 3×3 basketball courts.
The 3×3 Hustle ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships will showcase the best 3×3 Hustle teams from across Australia, playing an exciting, fast-paced game of basketball.
City of Ballarat Deputy Mayor Cr Amy Johnson said the City of Ballarat is proud to be attracting such national competitions.
“We have invested strongly in event and visitation strategies to enable such events,” Cr Johnson said.
“We know Ballarat is capable of hosting major national sporting events, and now the Ballarat Sports and Events Centre is becoming one of Australia’s premier basketball venues.”
3×3 basketball is played with three players, with only one backboard and half the normal sized court.
It is played in a single 10 minute period, with the winner being the first team to 21 or whichever team has the highest score when time’s up. The sport was added to the programme for last year’s Tokyo Olympics.
“These championships will also bring terrific economic benefits to Ballarat so we are really excited by having this fantastic opportunity to showcase our city for this event,” Cr Johnson said.
“I would encourage all Ballarat sports fans to get down to the 3×3 Hustle ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships to watch Australia’s best 3×3 basketball teams, both junior and senior compete for the national title.”
Head of NBL 3×3 Hustle Jaele Patrick said she was looking forward to a fun-filled, action-packed ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships.
“The next generation of 3×3 hustlers will battle it out for the national title in what will be an exciting weekend of 3×3 hoops,” she said.
“For all Ballarat fans thinking of joining the fun, we have plenty of entertainment on offer with a live painter, photo booth, chill zone and DJ all set to feature.”
