New results released today show that NBN Co Limited’s (NBN Co) hybrid-fibre coaxial (HFC) network is capable of delivering ultrafast speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (1Gbps), demonstrating the future upgrade path for the technology.
The ground-breaking trial undertaken in Templestowe, Victoria used next-generation DOCSIS 3.1 technology on an NBN HFC connected home.
Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said thanks to the Liberal-³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ approach, the NBN is technology-agnostic and can take full advantage of advances in technology to deliver better outcomes to consumers at affordable prices.
“These results showcase that our multi-technology mix approach is the most efficient and economical solution in deploying lightning fast speeds for millions of Australians,” said Minister Fletcher.
“The Government’s investment in the NBN has dramatically changed the communications landscape in Australia. With increasing demand for data, NBN Co will continue to develop network enhancements to meet customer demand.”
Today, more than 85 percent of homes and businesses can connect to high speed broadband on the NBN and more than 5.5 million Australians have already connected. NBN Co is on track to complete the build by June 2020.
