NDS welcomes NDIS review to cut wait times

The peak body for disability service providers, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Disability Services (NDS), has welcomed the Government’s announcement that the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 will be reviewed to streamline NDIS processes and reduce wait times for participants.

This review of NDIS legislation and rules will inform the development of the Morrison Government’s promised NDIS Participant Service Guarantee.

³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Disability Services Acting CEO David Moody said, “This is an important step in reducing red tape for service providers. We hope the review will shorten the NDIA’s decision-making process, which has been a source of great frustration for disability service providers and NDIS participants.”

Mr Moody said the review should also consider the use of assistive technology, development of planning processes, NDIS pricing, and options for participants to use their plan funding for transport services.

“Access to transport, particularly in remote and very remote parts of Australia, has been a challenging process for people with disability,” Mr Moody said.

NDS looks forward to the review consultation beginning in late August, and will support members to participate in discussions and workshops as part of this process.
