Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol picked up a speeding P-plater nearly double the speed limit in Springvale this morning.
Officers were performing routine laser checks on Westall Road when they detected a 2013 Lexus sedan travelling 154km/h in an 80km/h zone about 1.20am.
Police intercepted the vehicle and spoke to the 20-year-old driver who explained he was going out to get food.
The Springvale man also furnished a positive oral fluid test for drugs.
His vehicle was immediately impounded for 30 days with towing costs of $969.80.
It is expected the man will be charged on summons with driving in a manner dangerous, exceeding the speed limit, drug driving and failing to display P-plates.
