The Neil Street Interchange public amenities block has received a much-needed upgrade in time for the festive season.
Backing onto the Bell Street Mall, Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr James O’Shea said the facilities would provide an essential service to anyone using the interchange, as well as pedestrians through the mall.
“With the bus station and the mall linking in this part of the City, it’s important to have a hygienic location for residents and visitors,” he said.
“The works which have been completed provide a new access from Bell Street Mall, greater ventilation, more natural light and additional security surveillance to improve community safety at this key location in the Toowoomba CBD.
“To ensure there is longevity from the works which have been carried out, the amenities have been fitted with vandal resistant fittings which will deter vandalism and reduce crime.
“With the amenities now open to the public, it’s envisaged the upgrade will encourage further foot traffic through this popular spot.”
In total $1 million was spent on this project, including some structural improvements to the bus station complex.
Operating hours are from 5.45am to 9pm daily. Public toilets located at the Neil Street Car Park (35-47 Neil Street) will no longer be available for public use.
