Netballers Shine At State Titles

RAAF

The ADF ladies open and men’s reserve netball teams showcased their talent and determination at the NSW State Titles from June 8-10, as the men placed third and the women finished mid-table.

Before the start of the competition, teams took part in a rigorous two-day training camp at Holsworthy Army Barracks to hone their skills and foster camaraderie and unity.

One of the highlights of the camp was watching the Giants netball team in action. Witnessing the dedication and skill of these elite athletes provided invaluable insights and inspiration for the ADF netballers.

President ADF Netball Association (ADFNA) Wing Commander Jacqueline Carswell said it was a significant way to prepare.

“This opportunity was a great lead-in and the start of a relationship that will help ADFNA improve their professionalism on and off the court,” she said.

Throughout the three-day championship, both the ladies and men’s teams showed outstanding sportsmanship and skill on the court.

Vice President ADF Netball Association and team coach Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Kimberly Kiely said the women’s team competed fiercely until the end, with their exceptional performance earning praise from spectators and reinforcing the ADF’s commitment to promoting sport.

“Overall, the ADF ladies finished 11 out of 18 quality state teams. The team showed great sportsmanship even in defeat by remaining in high spirits and were humble in success,” WO1 Kiely said.

“The ladies showcased Defence values and were continually praised for their respectful nature towards other teams, umpires and support staff.

“Overall, the ladies team showed great determination and skill in their participation across the competition against well-established teams who would have prepared for months leading into the event.”

Meanwhile, the men’s team, under the guidance of coach Captain Nicola Worsley, exceeded expectations despite the short preparation time.

“Placing third in the division is reflective of the team’s determination, willingness to learn and substantial development,” Captain Worsley said.
