City of Darwin has today given support to Neuron Mobility, Southeast Asia’s leading e-scooter sharing company, for a 12 month trial of motorised e-scooters across 37 locations in Darwin.
“City of Darwin has jumped at the chance to support this 12 month trial,” said Josh Sattler, General Manager Innovation Growth and Development “motorised scooters are a great option for commuters, providing a quick, effortless and inexpensive mode of transport to move around the city.”
This trial will operate within terms and conditions established by the e-scooter working group.
“It is very exciting to see Darwin become one of the first cities in Australia to embrace e-scooter sharing services,” said Zachary Wang, CEO of Neuron Mobility. “We are committed to working closely with City of Darwin to ensure the smooth integration of this new mode of transport for the daily commute.”
Darwin would be the first market globally to launch Neuron Mobility’s new commercial-grade N3 e-scooter, built from the ground up specifically for the sharing economy. The toughened scooters are custom-built to ensure smoother urban commutes and safer rides, complementing existing transport options and improving economic activity for Darwin.
“The trial could include up to 300 scooters operating from 37 fixed docks across the CBD, Darwin Waterfront, Cullen Bay to the Casino, Fisherman’s Wharf and Stokes Hill Wharf,” said Mr Sattler “and the rollout of e-scooters could commence as early as August.”
The e-scooters can travel at a maximum speed of 20 km/h, must travel on bikeways, shared paths and footpaths, and helmets must be worn at all times. When fully charged the e-scooters can travel for a distance of up to 80km.
Potential users can download the app, Neuron – E-scooter Sharing – to use the scooters, via the app stores available to android and iOS users.
Flexibility is built into pricing for the e- scooters, with a charge by the minute, a weekly use rate or a monthly pass, reflecting great value and accessibility for the Darwin community and visitors.
