A man, who has never held a driver’s license, has been charged following a pursuit on the state’s South Coast yesterday.
About 10.50pm (Saturday 29 February 2020), officers from South Coast Police District were patrolling the Princes Highway, Moruya, when a Hyundai Excel was detected speeding.
The vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
While travelling east on Bergalia Street, the Hyundai attempted a left-hand turn and spun out of control, before hitting a power pole.
The driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Moruya Hospital for treatment for a small head wound and mandatory blood and urine testing.
Police searched the man’s vehicle and located an electronic stun device and a knife.
Upon release from hospital, he was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station and charged with class A vehicle exceed speed >20km/h, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive recklessly, negligent driving, never licensed person drive vehicle on road and possesses or use prohibited weapon.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Batemans Bay Local Court today, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court tomorrow (Monday 2 March 2020).
