  • Construction of the new $1.5 million early intervention centre at Glen Huon Primary School in Eaton is on track for completion in April this year.

A key regional McGowan Government election commitment, Premier Mark McGowan and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray visited the site today to view progress on the centre’s construction.

A total of 62 construction jobs have been created throughout the duration of the project.

When completed, the centre will serve families from Glen Huon, Eaton, River Valley and Clifton Park primary schools, focusing on services and support for families and children from birth to eight years of age.

Services include occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language specialists plus access to a child health nurse.

The new facilities will include three consultant rooms, a room for community activities such as breakfast clubs, before and after school care, toddlers group activities, kitchen and storage areas and a covered play area.

The centre will host meetings and workshops for parents, staff and the community to educate them about early intervention programs and to promote understanding about therapies to support children with autism and disorders of speech and language, hearing, fine and gross motor development, sensory and mental health.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“This centre will be a vital community asset, and is a great addition to Glen Huon Primary School which already has a strong focus on early intervention.

“These facilities will provide essential services to the wider Eaton community and help give our children the best possible start to their education.

“We are continuing to invest in regional education, with the Glen Huon Early Intervention Centre being one of many key projects in regional WA.

“We are committed to delivering the highest standard of education to children in the region.”

As stated by Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:

“I’m pleased the McGowan Government is delivering on its election commitment to boost school facilities for our local community.

“It’s wonderful for us to have an early intervention centre that’s inclusive and helps families from across the area – Glen Huon, Eaton, River Valley and Clifton Park primary schools.

“Early intervention centres like these are vital in our children’s learning journey and will provide an added level of support for students and their families. I look forward to seeing the complete product and welcoming all the families to the centre later this year.”
