The Property Council has welcomed the announcement from the NSW Government today of a new 20-year vision for Pyrmont.
“The NSW Government’s draft Pyrmont Peninsula Place Strategy and Economic Development Strategy will help direct the area’s growth where it needs to be.This is great news for the city,” Property Council’s Acting NSW Executive Director, Belinda Ngo said today.
The draft strategy earmarks a potential metro station at Pyrmont, a new indoor sports and entertainment venue, more and better public spaces and key sites for renewal, including the existing Sydney Fish Market site at Blackwattle Bay, The Star site at Darling Island, development of Harbourside Shopping Centre, and the UTS Haymarket.
“This precinct has evolved significantly over the years as a place of diverse offering and getting the strategy right, will cement its place as a destination of choice for local and international visitors.
“This strategy presents potential for transformative economic change and it must include a metro station at Pyrmont as a significant piece of the puzzle.
“Improved transport connections and accessibility is an important factor in realizing future growth and we look forward to seeing more detail around this.
“A solid renewal strategy, supported by the right transport infrastructure is going to deliver long term jobs, tourism and economic growth and we will continue to engage with government around this.”
The draft Pyrmont Peninsula Place Strategy and Economic Development Strategy are on public exhibition for community feedback until 13 September 2020.
