There will be changes to the number of bins you have, the size of your bins, and how often they are picked up.
The 4-bin service will help reduce waste sent to landfill and improve the quality of recyclables in Victoria.
From July 2023, you will need to sort your waste into 4 different bins:
- Food and garden organics bin (lime green lid), collected weekly
- Mixed recycling bin (yellow lid), collected every 2 weeks
- Glass recycling bin (purple lid), collected every 4 weeks
- General rubbish bin (red or dark green lid), which will continue to be collected weekly.
Your new bins will be delivered between March and June 2023 in stages.
We understand that not all households have room to store 4 bins. Most people living in units and apartments will use shared bins with their neighbours. Some residents will need to take their glass bottles and jars to a glass recycling drop-off point. In February, we will mail you information if it affects you.
The Victorian Government is standardising household waste and recycling services across the state. All Victorian council kerbside waste services will move to a 4-bin system.
Small acts like sorting your waste into 4 bins can make a big impact. By separating your waste into 4 bins, more of your recycling can be turned into new things, like glass jars.
By putting your food scraps in the food and garden organics bine, we can almost halve the amount of waste sent to landfill.
