The latest ACT Skills Needs List has been released, with more than 40 new qualifications added to help address skills gaps in renewable energy, tourism, advanced manufacturing and transport sectors.
“We are ambitious for Canberra, the growth of our economy, the capability of our workforce and the great jobs our thriving local industries can offer,” said Minister for Skills Chris Steel.
“To capitalise on our opportunities for knowledge-based economic growth, we need to ensure our workforce has the right skills for in-demand jobs – now and in the future.
“This list is built on a detailed understanding of emerging industries and areas of skills need, to make sure we’re investing in the right areas of vocational education and training.”
The 2022-23 ACT Skills Needs List was developed through an updated direct consultation approach, seeking direct feedback from local employers about their current gaps and growth needs.
Over the coming months the ACT Government will be engaging with more growth sectors in the technology industries, building and construction industries, caring industries and the experience industries to develop detailed action plans for strengthening skills and workforce development.
This may see further targeting of our record investment in training to areas of skills need and co-investment in the development of new courses and workforce attraction.
“Ensuring these industries are on the Skills Needs List enables the ACT Government to target training to develop a productive and highly skilled workforce which strengthens our economy and makes Canberra a better place to live,” said Minister Steel.
The ACT Skills Needs List informs the scope of qualifications subsidised by the ACT Government, and subsidy levels for government-funded training.
The 2022-23 Skills Needs List contains 121 qualifications covering approximately 175 occupations across all industries and will help improve outcomes for both employers and job seekers.
Some of the new qualifications appearing on the list this year are:
- Certificate III in Renewable Energy – ELV
- Certificate IV in Electrical – Renewable Energy
- Diploma of Outdoor Leadership
- Certificate IV in Supply Chain Operations
- Diploma of Engineering – Advanced Trade
- Diploma of Logistics
The 2022-23 ACT Skills Needs list will help address the ACT Government economic priorities as outlined in and the government’s workforce and skills agenda, .
